At the same time, it became a way to consume the news, stay updated about populat culture, create an audience for a service or product someone is creating. It is also a way to spur envy, or become famous. I believe that social networks should be all this (except for being platforms that support hate-speech, threats, trolling, and all the other awful shit people are doing) and nothing of this at the same time. But they should be usable, understandable, and secure. Honestly secure. They should serve as innocent (is this the right word) platforms where we can share stuff.
They should not be one of the easiest ways to invade our privacy, surveil us, manipulate and control us.
Hossein Derakshan is a writer and researcher with whom I spoke at lenght about the role of social networks.
Enjoy & thank you for your time :)
Have a great day!
