Latest progress on the novel since last post is still a mass of coloured inks and block capitals and crossings out and swearings, so I thought I’d share something a little different for this week’s post.
Just as artist’s doodle to warm up their hands and brains, I like to play around with some words on the laptop to get both physically and mentally warmed up. It might just be tweeting surreal comedy heckles to the brilliant @pastpostcard or it might be finding some far right extremists and tearing them a new one (and getting a 30 day Facebook ban for my troubles) but sometimes it’s something a little more creative.
For the last month or so I’ve been slowly putting together a prose-poem story during warm-up sessions. Unlike the novel, I have literally no idea where it’s going or what it’s for – I’ve been banging down stanzas, tidying them up and sending them to an astonishingly intelligent, wise, funny and beautiful musey-type loved one with a short list of very abstract questions as to what should be included in the next section.
Sadly, being utterly brilliant, said musey-type is way too busy doing useful, sensible and uber-smart things at the moment, so I thought I’d open up the interaction to you guys. If you want to take part, have a read of the attached and then throw some suggestions in the comments at me based around these questions….
1) Enter the station or get on the train?
2) Which of the three objects does the stationmaster take from his pocket?
3) What’s the mapmaker wearing?
4) What’s the next emotion?
Feel free to chip in or not. It's up to you. Who knows, eventually this happy set of accidents and interactions may become a work in its own right.
In other news, as some of you will have seen I’m doing a lot of end of the month promotion tied into a cheap guilt-trip around my impending birthday, so please do your bit by sharing and spreading the good news if you have the time. Hopefully by this time next week you’ll be seeing the first roughs for some of the chapter-heading illustrations.
Thank you all as ever for your inspiration and support – you have no idea how much it means to me.
