It's not only about the cake
I found a very interesting thought: “Once you realize that you don’t need a special occasion to buy a cake, the second part of your life begins.” Though I discovered this some time ago (cake is delicious!), today is a special occasion for me, given that it’s been a year with my transplant and the lab results came out normal =D. Putting that aside, I want to continue sharing what the phrase from the beginning means to me, because I think it’s not all about the cake.

How many times have you ‘saved something for a special occasion’? I wonder how many bottles of Champagne remain unopened, gathering dust through the years, or how many clothes we decide not to wear often because ‘they’re only for special events’... And still, it’s not only about cake, or Champagne, or clothes…

How many times did we not say ‘I love you’ or hugged someone? How many times our trips to visit family and friends only depended on certain circumstances, even though we had the resources and the time? Or perhaps you decide not to have time to play with your kids, because it’s not their birthday, or Christmas, or Halloween, or vacation? How many times we passed on a cup of coffee because we had ‘too much work’? And though I’m aware that sometimes time is really important, most of the time an hour we decide to give to ourselves and to others will become an hour in which we become happier. It’s difficult, I can only say I’ve tried and will continue to do so, but it’s important to at least have it in mind.

Everyday is a special occasion in which we celebrate life itself, so allow yourself to appreciate what really matters, to laugh, to play, to hug, to love. Allow yourself to enjoy a slice of this cake called life, because tomorrow there might not be any slices left…
