"Junetenth," born on June 26th

Here's a name I discovered a few weeks ago: "Junetenth." It belonged to a baby girl born in Texas in 1930.

But get this: She was not born on June 10th. She was born on June 26th!

I wish I could tell you more about that weird discrepancy, but I couldn't find an explanation anywhere.

All I can tell you is that, in other records, she's listed as "Juneteena."

Update, 3/22/2019: I might have missed something here! A commenter at my blog has a better theory: Juneteenth (Jun. 19th), a holiday that celebrates the end of slavery.
