I think I get their original intent with the image, but disagree with the execution. It's gory for no reason, if they really beheaded someone, their face wouldn't be covered in blood like that. I've seen an ISIS video, it doesn't look like that. The gore changes the message. They should have stuck with a very obviously fake head.
So basically I think it's bad art, but I understand the inclination to create the image.
I get their intent because this winter I almost made a colouring page, largely a copy of "The Last Unicorn" above, of one of my girls holding President Donald Trump's severed head triumphantly. It was supposed to be my little girl vs the ultimate epitome of the patriarchy, and she WINS.
But Blake talked me out of it. Blake said I could be put on a terrorist watch list. Blake said HE could be barred entry from his own country, the US, if that happened. They're looking at people's Facebook at the border and turning people away if they see anti-Trump stuff for fuck's sake. This is within the realm of possibility.
So obviously I didn't do it. I wish I could. It'd be awesome. But obviously we live in a world where artists are forced to censor themselves or forsake their freedom of movement; or maybe even worse, are forced to grovel on social media for any scrap of forgiveness or probably face actual charges and jail time for threatening the life of the President of the United States.
