KFOG Morning Show Archive: Steve Miller "Wild Mountain Honey"

Hey it's Greg and this is one I distinctly remember. It was the summer of 2004 and Dave was away. Annalisa was filling in which meant I got to "produce" and "engineer" this recording as well as "Take the Money and Run," a track that would end up on the double CD of Live from the Archives 11. Though really it only involved sticking a single microphone in front of Mr Miller and moving the fader up, I was chuffed to get a production credit when the album came out.

Steve was on a promo tour of guitar shops for Martin Guitars and wore a double breasted suit and tie. When he got out of the elevator I thought one of our salesmen had come to work early with a guitar for some reason. It took a moment to compute when he stuck out his hand and introduced himself.

Though stripped of all the proggy noodling of the original, I really adore this short but sweet version of "Wild Mountain Honey." We hope you do too.

This is a project to put the KFOG Morning Show archive (1999-2011) online.  Converting the audio from archaic DAT tapes to digital files and fixing the sound etc takes time. On this page you do have the opportunity to contribute a few bucks a year to our show, a monthly podcast that tapes at the Haight Street Art Center. Proceeds from our show go to the Blue Bear School of Music. You can give as little as $1 a month but a $5 contribution guarantees entry to these events that have included guests like Bob Weir, Steve Earle, Chris Robinson, Nicki Bluhm and many more. Thanks for your support.
