The song's full title 'Lady of my heart (Everything is dangerous)' was the reason I went over there. I wanted to lay it on tape and get a feel for the song. It was a pleasure having Philip sit in, I felt our old musical energy and so did something I rarely do, got a take on the first try.
Lady Of My Heart
I wrote this just recently. A wave of songs have been coming out since I finished the final wrap on the album 'You'.
It is usually the case that I get a big wav during the making of the album and when it's finished. I'm someone who enjoys writing daily, but when I'm on a heavy project, I try to suppress new stuff, because it, well, honestly ... it depresses me. I see how much work and hustle I'm in to make the current project, and new songs coming in that period have a reality that is shown with them ( viewed through the current project) that it is going to be hell to pay (for lack of a better term) to get them on tape and to their rightful place in a release.. But, these songs are very important... the songs during and after a big project are songs that have been waiting their turn, so to say.
You will hear me talking about songwriting as a therapy, often. The album You was therapy for an era when life and love got shook up. The songs that are coming now are reflections with some perspective... and some allowance of feelings I couldn't allow during the 'shake' up era of the songs of 'you'.
This song I love.. Halli loves it too, it's one of her all time favorites. I love simple songs.. I strangely have a real hard time writing 'simple.' Even songs that seem simple, like 'Broken King' are really not. This one is simple, and I let it be that.
I'm so glad I had a chance to sit down with Phil on this one.. Enjoy.. let me know what you think.
