Welcome to the Daiyuverse. Today we're going to talk about one of our main characters in Cycle 2.
Let's talk about baby witch Nanita St. Pierre from just outside of Bayou Cane in Louisiana.
Before we get to the juicy stuff, I'd like to introduce you to the Daiyuverse. The Daiyuverse is my nickname for the mostly based in and around Settle magical universe I am creating. Our heroine/problematic lil weirdo is Daiyu Marie Jackson who, in cycle 2 is setting out on an epic roadtrip with her God Father to learn, grow up and meet some folks.
The Daiyuverse is specifically and intentionally a POC centered universe. The magic draws from outside of the European traditions found in a lot of magical lit and I am taking great care to write about/inside of cultures I am not a part of. That said, I'm really enjoying creating a system of magic for this work and using established diasporic religion as inspiration and reference material.
Also in the chunk of the verse I'm making available, you'll notice some brightly colored notes. In this little project I've decided to make this an absolutely raw, naked first draft. This is how the sausage is made and occasionally, how the author freaks out mid thing.
So let's talk about Nanita.
I chose Bayou Cane very deliberately. It came to mind because I had some distant relates who lived in the area and remember them talking about the water and the critters. I was inspired by the fishing, the beauty of the area and the wildlife. I've fictionalized it as, if you're a fan you've probably read other things that play with the real world like that.
The St. Pierre family is not a traditional family. Nanita's parents are married but get along better if they don't live together all the time. I'm working hard to make evident how much they love each other and how this structure works for them. Nanita like Daiyu is a special witch, I've been interested in playing with the chosen one trope and turning it into a little bit of something else.
One of the reasons I started this project is to have a place to play. A lot of my work is deeply emotionally difficult and I've wanted to write very Black, very POC, VERY QUEER urban fantasy and this is how I've decided to do it.
If you'd like to check out more here is what you get for your patronage.
Generally speaking, most months you get 3 thousand new words and sometimes a bit more. I like to write y'all a little letter of thanks as well.
Sometimes I like to include extras. The occasional playlist, a sneak peek at my character spreadsheet, sometimes a work in progress.
I'd like to increase how many/how much is going on so I can do MORE THINGS. I'm very interested in doing some Patron only videos talking about writing in terms of craft, pitfalls, shit talking. Maybe a Q/A or two.
One of the other goals is that I want to make the Daiyuverse big and wide. At some point I'd like to occasionally feature other authors or artists and be able to pay them for their work. That is a bit far off but something in the works.

If you have any questions feel free to comment.
Please remember, this is raw rough right out of my brain pan first draft so you will see weird mistakes and typos. Roll with it.
