The Piece That Changed My Life: Courtnee Papastathis (Mixed Media Artist, United States)
I would like to submit my mixed media project, "Life in a box" as the piece that changed my life. Throughout my life, art has generally been a way to cope through sorrow and pain, a force of coping that I've allowed to pass through me when it was needed but was unable to focus or be consistent with.
Life in a Box: A turning point
Today, as I sell one of the three canvases I withheld from my 2012 project "Life in a box" for myself, I've found myself revisiting that glorious bastard of a project again, and what it meant for me as an artist. Chris Collins, an incredibly talented and generous art supporter (and artist himself who really needs to get on patreon so I can give money to him) posted this on his zine, The Nonsense Society, shortly after my show closed in July. It is an apt description of a turning point in my life and a thought provoking revisitation of a time in which I became more aware of myself, my desires, and how I wanted get to where I wanted to go.
