LWER 28: Nathan McCree (Tomb Raider), Super Audio Cart

Today's show seems so retro, featuring a sample library built from old-school console sounds as well as the composer for the first three Tomb Raider games.


Lots of nostalgia in this episode!


Regarding the sample library, David Lloyd (founder of OCRemix.org) and Andrew Aversa (aka Zircon, a composer/remixer) created Super Audio Cart from more than a thousand sounds from seven classic consoles. 


The sounds come from the Game Boy, Atari 2600, Commodore 64, Sega Genesis, Nintendo, Sega Master System and Super Nintendo. All the music you hear during Andrew and David's segment was created using Super Audio Cart, some of which was written by Andrew. And be sure to check out Andrew's SoundCloud page!


It sure seems like a great tool for anyone interested in making music using those sounds, as David and Andrew explain in the episode.


Composer Nathan McCree is in the process of orchestrating his Tomb Raider music into a Tomb Raider Suite. I was blown away when he told me which orchestra will perform it! He's also creating a documentary and he'll release an album when all is said and done.


Sam and I had a chance to spend a bit of time with Nathan while we were in Boston for PAX East. Nathan is wonderful, and we can't wait to hear the orchestrated Tomb Raider Suite!
