Malaika: Always Bet on Black (Part 2)

In just about every interview I do, everyone has a story about how they were affected by 2008. Unfortunately, Malaika is no different 🙁It was brutal, and she connects this to how, in general, Black women are disproportionately harmed by student debt, due to their perception of needing to be over credentialed in order to have value in the labor market (she has both her Masters in Social Work and a Law Degree from Columbia). Plus, she helps me better understand the (very valid) race specific critique of the Sanders campaign, when it came to their pitch for universal programs. Oh, and how people keep getting the story of the de-industrialized Midwest wrong (hint: stop glossing over the Black people there who have suffered the brunt of things)

You can find Malaika on twitter at @malaikajabali and on her website at malaikajabali.com
