Marigolds AND Monarchs

So. I'm just about to jump in the shower, so I can run into Dallas and pick up artwork, when the call for art for the Dia de los Muertos show popped up on my Facebook feed.

Here's the call. The theme is The Path of Winged Souls, and the curator is looking for artwork with both marigolds and monarch butterflies.

Marigolds AND monarchs. Dammit.

I'd been hoping that Maravilla might fit into this year's show, but she's missing the butterfly portion of the call. Do I rework this painting, to add some monarch butterflies? The color palette is certainly right, and I can easily plot and plan the placement on the computer, print out some line work decals, and paint over them once they're applied to the canvas.

File this under "listen to your inner voices": for months, sealing this painting has been on my to-do list, but I just kept putting it off. It's a good thing, because if I'd applied the wax sealer, reworking the painting wouldn't be an option. Something in the back of my head was telling me not to commit to this painting being complete until the call for art went out.

Plan B is to do a new painting. I have so much artwork going on right now for the oracle deck, but one of the words on my list is Enchantment. Lovely monarch Day of the Dead fairy painting? I might be able to work that in.

Or, I could do both. This is what I'll be contemplating while I'm making the mad dash through the construction zone that is the road between here and Dallas...
