After losing 16-2 on Wednesday, the Bats brought out the lumber on Thursday for Education day with a 10:35am start time.
Phillip Ervin went 1-5 with a walk and 2 runs scored.
Hernan Iribarren had a big day. He went 2-3 with 2 walks, a triple, home run, scored 4 runs and drove in 3 runs. After a slow start in April where he played in just 8 games after returning from the disabled list, he's hit .328/.388/.525 in May while playing in 15 games.
Jesse Winker went 3-5 with a double, run and a 3 RBI. He's hitting .339/.408/.435 in May.
Tony Renda went 2-4 with a walk and an RBI.
Sebastian Elizalde went 1-4 with 2 RBI.
Zach Vincej went 2-5 with a run.
Beau Amaral went 2-5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Cody Reed allowed 2 runs in 7.0 innings with 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. He threw 95 pitches and had 59 strikes to go along with 9 ground outs and 2 fly outs.
Kevin Shackelford threw a perfect inning with a strikeout. He lowered his ERA to 1.50 on the season. After walking 9 batters and striking out 11 in 10.0 innings in April, he's turned things around in May. Over 8.0 innings he's walked just 1 batter and struck out 13.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos
The Blue Wahoos won 3-2 on Thursday night.
Josh Van Meter went 1-4 with a run.
Aristides Aquino went 1-4 with a triple and an RBI. After a very slow start to the season, Aquino has been heating up over the last week and a day. Since May 11th he's hit .324/.343/.765. He's still struggling with his strikeout-to-walk ratio, but he is starting to hit the ball hard and find some hits along the way.
Gabby Guerrero went 3-4 with a run.
Brian O'Grady went 2-3 with a double, walk and 2 RBI. One of his hits was a walk-off single that completed a comeback after trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the 8th.
Tyler Mahle allowed 2 runs over 6.0 innings with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. The control was a bit off for Mahle, a rarity for him. The three walks were a season high, and he also hit another batter along the way. His ERA jumped up to 1.59 on the season.
Alex Powers tossed 2.0 shutout innings with 4 strikeouts.
Brennan Bernardino struck out all 3 batters he faced in the game.
The Tortugas lost 5-3 on Thursday night.
Alfredo Rodriguez went 1-3 with a walk, steal and a run. After a rough April, Rodriguez has swung a hot bat in May. Over 17 games he's hitting .318/.357/.364 with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. He's also stolen 4 bases in the month. He is currently boasting an 11-game hitting streak.
Shed long went 2-4 with a double, steal, run and an RBI. He's up to .322/.377/.497 on the season for Daytona.

Mitch Piatnik went 1-3 with a triple and a run.
Chris Okey went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts. His struggles have continued into May. After posting a .481 OPS in April he's down to .419 in May. Strikeouts have been the biggest culprit as he's now struck out 40 times in 127 plate appearances (31%).
Jonathon Crawford struggled with his control once again. He walked 5 batters and hit two more in 3.1 innings. He threw 43 strikes and had 43 balls thrown in the game. He's now walked 28 batters and hit 7 more in 36.1 innings pitched this year for Daytona. If there's a silver lining in his season, it's that he's had a high ground ball rate, sitting at 55% entering the night.
