MEET MY NOVEL | WIP #1: The Long Cold Night

Hey, everybody! Thank you so much for participating in this Patreon. I thought I'd kick things off with a little bit about the projects I'm working on, particularly for the upcoming April and July Camp NaNoWriMos, as well as the fantasy novel that I'm ceaselessly and without too much complaining trying to edit.

I'm going to give each of my WIPs their own post, to share some facts about them, a mood board, and a few snippets of the work I've done so far!

First up is The Long Cold Night, the mystery novel I'll be working on for April's Camp NaNoWriMo.

Synopsis

This is available on my Camp NaNoWriMo page for this project, but I'll recreate it here:

Why I'm Excited

BECAUSE IT'S BASICALLY MURDER ON A TRAIN STUCK IN A SNOWSTORM AND EVERYONE TURNS ON EACH OTHER, CREATING ALLIANCES, BREAKING INTO FACTIONS, TO TRY TO SOLVE IT (WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY TRYING NOT TO FREEZE TO DEATH.)

There's also at least one LGBT romance (and I'm considering making a second romance LGBT as well), a diverse cast of characters, lots of humor, murder, and it'll be my first try at writing a proper standalone novel with no fantastical elements, and a murder mystery to boot. It should be a lot of fun.

I say this now. Two weeks in Camp NaNo, who knows if my tune will change.

Current Stats

Current Word Count: I have a 90 page outline right now with about 18,000 words. (How I managed to disseminate 18,000 words over 90 pages is another question entirely.)

Word Count Goal: 50,000 to 60,000 words

And, to close, the snippets!

This is a WIP that I haven't quite started yet, so all my snippets are very first-draft-y. Still, you deserve a little peek at what I'll be working on!

(I'm intentionally leaning into a "dark and stormy" night cliché, but twisted in an unexpected sense, since the novel itself seems like a clichéd murder mystery, until everything gets turned on its head.)

That's it for The Long Cold Night. Thank you so much for taking a look! I'll be working on this novel throughout April's CampNaNoWriMo, which starts in just a few days! Keep an eye on this Patreon for updates throughout the month, and thank you so much for the support!!
