I began streaming live from our Chevy Tahoe 15 years ago. In fact, my colleagues and I were probably the first to ever stream live wall-to-wall coverage during a hurricane and that was Katrina.
Since that time technology and bandwidth has come a long way and now anyone can stream live from their smart phone.
However, to provide a unique and immersive experience I’ve always wanted to do things differently. That being said, I am excited to announce that we will be using a Nest cam inside of our vehicle (rental during field work) to accomplish this.
Thanks to the collaboration and support of several patrons from around the country, I have a really innovative system set up to make this happen.
As you can see in the photograph included with this post, we took a simple cargo bar and attached a metal plate to it for the Nest cam to attach to.
This will allow you to ride with us as if you were sitting behind the front seat area.
In addition, we can remove the camera from the pole and take it with us anywhere we go as long as we bring our hotspot with us. You will literally be able to join us by virtue of the live feed 24 hours a day during our fieldwork. If we have a solid LTE signal, then you will be right there with us every step of the way.
We will re-broadcast the feed to our public YouTube channel as part of our ongoing public service work.
For you all, I will post a link to the native feed from the Nest cam right here - all patrons, all tiers.
This is going to be a huge enhancement and I look forward to implementing this during the season and beyond.
With in the next week or so I will do a test to show you what it will be like. I will let you know ahead of time when that will be. Have a great weekend and thank you all again for supporting something so incredible!
