Nocturnal Companions
This is another orchid-based piece, created to accompany my Icon Alchemy astrology blog post for February 14th, 2017.  While it still employs the day-glo colour scheme of the orchid pair from the day before, I opted for a dark background to this instead of light, in order to emphasize the intensity of the Moon/Pluto square finishing off Valentine's night.  Pluto (both the deity and the planet) governs underworld matters, so the darkness is fitting, and whenever a Pluto aspect appears I tend to design the day's art to reflect his presence.

My own natal chart is powerfully Plutonian - both of my luminaries and all of my chart's angles aspect Pluto, and I have planets in both Scorpio and the 8th house (ruled by Scorpio and therefore by Pluto), plus two of my personal planets aspect Pluto, as does my Neptune and Chiron.  Among other things, that makes me a control freak/OCD, but it also makes me very good at ferreting out hidden things.  This translates in my digital art as the tendency to dig into the structure of forms and textures in search of something not seen in the original photograph.

As a side note, paphiopedilum (the orchid featured here) is my stepmother's least favorite orchid.  While I'm not fond of the colour of a lot of paphs, there are some that I do find very beautiful.  They remind me of lady slippers and my godfather taking me and my father in search of wild ones in the mountains in Oregon when I was a little girl, so I have a soft spot for them despite many years of listening to my stepmother rant about how ugly she thought they were.  To each his own...
