NSFW content update

I have read all the comments and private messages. There were some really good comments and ideas I hadn’t thought of. There were also some comments/concerns about things I wasn’t going to change. I’m not going to hide NSFW creators. I’m not going to change the stats or list pages to hide NSFW creators. I hope my changes are minimal enough to keep everyone happy (like that old saying, you can always please everyone 😉 )

I want to preface this by saying that nothing is set in stone and I will continue to look for more ideas from anyone. Before you read any further, I implore you to look around the site for a little while https://graphtreon.com/ and then come back to read the explanation.

The changes come down to what IMAGES someone would reasonably expect to see when clicking a link. If someone clicks on a link for Podcasts, they wouldn’t expect to see explicit or provocative imagery. If someone clicks a link with NSFW or “Adult” referenced, they would expect to see those types of images.

What images am I replacing on “SFW” pages? Hopefully as FEW AS POSSIBLE. It’s going to be a case-by-case basis and it’s going to be determined by me. Someone needs to be the “bad guy” and make these calls, so that’ll be me. I know "explicit or provocative” is open to interpretation but smarter people than me have tried to define it and have failed. If you think a particular call I made was out of line? Call me out on it.

This also means that the Supporters page has been separated into two different pages. However, links to both pages will always be next to each other and most importantly, users know what to expect when they click on the links.

Why am I making these changes? Multiple reasons. I have seen a large drop off of SFW supporters wanting banners on the Supporters page. A few have voiced concerns about being surrounded by NSFW creators. And these SFW creators may not even have a problem with NSFW creators, but the SFW creator’s patrons might. Another personal thing is that I have children who are interested in the work I do on Graphtreon and I’d like to show them, but some of the imagery of some of the logos are not really for their eyes. And then there is people surfing at the office. There were tons of comments about how those people should get “back to work”. I’m assuming you never worked in an office before. There is tons of down time where people surf the web to unwind because expecting constant work in an office would be impossible and impractical. I really shouldn’t omit those user/patrons from looking at Graphtreon at work.

Speaking to another idea which I passed on for now: a site wide filter setting is a huge undertaking which has large downsides for NSFW creators which may not be apparent to those who don’t know website creation and SEO.  I feel my approach is also a better user experience where the user doesn't have to do anything (the best user experience is the one where no thought is needed).

This post has been real long, but I hope this is at least an ok compromise for everyone. As always, let me know your thoughts.
