Hard Project: MMOs
You know, it's a brand new year. And it can't go worse than last year did for the genre that I sort of get paid to write about, because 2014 was a wash in terms of new releases. Every single big title that released in 2014 managed to screw things up something awful, and when...
Oh, you ridiculous subgenre, you
There are a lot of things that I get annoyed about when it comes to MMOs. This is probably a good thing, on the whole, since talking about (and getting annoyed about) MMOs is a big portion of how I fend of starvation. But every so often it's fun to point out how fragile the whole genre is. Seriously, talk to an awful lot of people and they think that MMOs are either easy to make, easy to maintain, or functionally the same as single-player games with an online switch on the back. None of these things are remotely factual. Needless to say, this is only the bare bones of the ridiculousness that could be associated with the genre, but it's as good a place to start as any. And it made for a nice meta-column. Enjoy!
