Just to beat this dead horse, here's one more really sad song for a really sad year.
It's worth mentioning that my year, besides grieving for the deaths of Merle Haggard, Leonard Cohen, Mose Allison, Ralph Stanley, Guy Clark, Bowie, Prince, My Hope for American Democracy, and The Supposed Dignity of the Oval Office, was pretty good overall. I made a lot of ferocious new work, I had a grand ol' time touring the world with some of my best friends, and I had all of you out there listening and supporting my work and coming to shows.
My life, generally speaking, has been insanely outstandingly incomprehensibly lucky and blessed. I'm sure yours has, too! For example, ain't it nice to be warm and cozy in winter? And to have ears to hear with? And to love and be loved?
So let's all say it together, like we mean it:
THANK YOU, 2016, FOR ALL THE BLESSINGS YOU WROUGHT.
NOW, FUCK OFF.
In 2017, I'm anticipating joy, happiness, and lots of hard work.
If we make it through December, we'll be fine.
