Our Fate

I wrote this after I saw Othello with my mother almost four years ago. I loved how the dynamic between the couple changed. Hopefully, this poem mirrors their story.

It was love that held us,

And they were heartless.

It was lies that killed me,

Though you did the deed.

You became Othello,

And this was our tragedy.

I held the name Desdemona,

And this was our tragedy.

I held the thoughts back,

Refused to believe this was you.

But I felt my heart crack,

The song of death flew.

You became Othello,

And this was our tragedy.

I held the name Desdemona,

And this was our tragedy.

What have I done wrong,

To deserve this treatment?

So I’ll lie in bed and sing this song,

Unknowingly awaiting my judgment.

You Became Othello,

And this was our fate.

I held the title as your wife,

And it cost me my life.
