PoetsArtists is organizing a special edition entitled PAINTING THE FIGURE NOW, with art co-curated by Didi Menendez and Walt Morton. Selected works from the publication will be invited into a dedicated exhibition at the newly-opened Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art, at Opening date of the exhibition  will be July 2018.

PAINTING THE FIGURE NOW seeks to show quality painting that investigates the many ways we see the human figure now. Contemporary approaches to portraiture, narrative, and any and all visualizations focusing on the human form in life, action, play, work, and repose. We are seeking artists who understand the finest traditions of figurative art. We believe the human form is an endlessly interesting subject with inexhaustible potential. We want to see humanity with a relevant, fresh, and contemporary feeling. Any and all works that meet this broad guideline will be considered for exhibition.

To submit work to PAINTING THE FIGURE NOW, the easy way is to sign up for membership at the PoetsArtists Patreon page. This call is open to members and to invited artists. This costs starts from $5 a month. See column to the right. You may also just FOLLOW but may not submit until you become a patron.

Please note our general guidelines for submitting images and copy are listed in the PoetsArtists web site. Images should be high resolution 300 DPI with a minimum of 2000 pixels wide not to exceed 3000 pixels and no more than 5MB. Please title your folders with your name and share the link (not the folder) of the folder with Didi Menendez at [email protected]. Make sure to include a text file with information about your work and contact information.

We are looking for paintings for the exhibition but would like to publish other mediums in the issue including photography, art reviews, digital, interviews, art reviews, and poetry. Use the same method preparing a folder for these.

If your work is accepted we will contact you by the deadline. In this case because we are working with a membership arena, we will post the names of the accepted artists shortly after the deadline. We will not send out rejections. The artists accepted for publication may be contacted for further copy for their layout. Please see step on when preparing your folder to avoid any last minute requests.

The accepted works will shared with the director of the museum and he will then select and notify us of the pieces which will ultimately be hung at the museum for three months. Please note that the museum may reject any works which do not meet the accepted images.

Deadline: March 1, 2018
Opening Night: July 7, 2018

The new way of handling group exhibitions is that our curators select works from the submissions received. PA publishes the works the curators select. The Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art Director David Hummer will then select from the published works a juried subset they will hang. It is possible that all works will be chosen or just a few. We want to keep the museum’s vision in place. WMOCA is interested in presenting both USA artists and international artists in their terrific new venue. All artists are responsible for shipping to and from the museum which is located in Wisconsin, USA.

All works must be available to sell. The museum has a standard commission in place and we will discuss that with the artists whose works are chosen to hang. An agreement will be sent to artists and they must sign and return to the director at the museum.

Galleries whose artists fit this call are also welcomed to submit on their behalf. Consignments will be arranged with the museum. Galleries must also sign up for membership to be eligible to submit.

Submitting the entry form indicates that you agree with the conditions of entry and exhibit as outlined in this prospectus, that you agree to make your work available and will ship/deliver it to the gallery by the date specified should it be selected for exhibit.

DO NOT submit an entry if you cannot follow through. Do not double-book your work, commit it to other conflicting exhibitions, or sell it without securing its availability for our exhibit, after submitting to this project.
