Party in Heaven, For Sacha
Ever met someone that you just immediately clicked with? Who shared a lot of your same interests and went out of their way to make you feel welcome? My friend Sacha was one of those for me. He is the reason I and at least one of my friends watch Doctor Who. I wrote "You Kicked My Heart in the Ass" at his house when he opened his home to me and one of my friends whom he had never met (Josh Salazar, with whom I've done a couple videos).

Sacha once drove all the way from Atlanta to Nashville to attend my Doctor Who party with British snacks, a remote control Dalek, and a sonic screwdriver among other things I can't remember right now.  He stayed in contact with a few of the other attendants, whom he hadn't met before that night.

He was an actor and did some radio cinema etc. He was in a goth rock band called the Julia Dream where he played electric guitar. He loved sharing music and cool stuff (it was almost overwhelming how much he would share) and he was always snazzily dressed. I knew he played the saxophone, but never had the opportunity to hear him play it live, and he shared with me some electronic music, of which I found out later that he had shared to a bunch of his friends with the same message: No sharesies.

I met him through my boyfriend at the time a few years ago, and when my ex and I broke up, he and I still remained good friends. When I signed my first record deal last year, he wanted to make absolute certain that I wasn't going to get taken advantage of.

When he got sick the first time, my ex drove to Atlanta to see him even though he wasn't conscious. I didn't go for a multitude of reasons, and I'm glad I don't have to remember him in that state. I remember his cheerful and debonair demeanor. How he gave the best hugs and wasn't afraid to squeeze anyone with his whole body. How he drank PG Tips with milk and encouraged all his friends to do the same.  How he would surprise me with something crass and honest, but with just the right amount of humor. Most of all I remember his heart.

RIP Sacha. This is for you.

Party in Heaven

Verse

You may have had heart problems

but there was nothing wrong with your heart

You had a way of making friends

In an instant and right from the start

PreChorus

Everyone that met you loved you

so it's no surprise

Chorus

When David Bowie threw a party in heaven

Of course you were invited

Now you're rockin’ out with Lemmy and George Michael

I bet you're so excited

To be at David Bowie's party in heaven

Verse

I bet you're drinking PG tips with milk

While you and Carrie fisher trade quips

You're probably playing saxophone with Prince

While Leonard Cohen gives you songwriting tips

And while I’d give a lot to see your kohl-rimmed eyes again

‘Neath that curly hair that was getting kinda thin

I'm glad that you're in such good company

And I hope the TV where you are gets the BBC

PreChorus

Everyone that met you loved you

so it's no surprise

Chorus

When David Bowie threw a party in heaven

Of course you were invited

Now you're rockin’ out with Lemmy and George Michael

I bet you're so excited

To be at David Bowie's party in heaven

PreChorus

Everyone that met you loved you

so it's no surprise

Chorus

When David Bowie threw a party in heaven

Of course you were invited

Now you're rockin’ out with Lemmy and George Michael

I bet you're so excited

To be at David Bowie's party in heaven
