Patreon Song #27: "Chickadee"
The first song I wrote on the banjo! I actually started this song a year or so ago, when I got a bird feeder going in the backyard and had way too many customers. I eventually couldn't afford all that birdseed, so I had  to put the feeder out of commission, but at least I started writing my first bird song, and first banjo song all at the same time. Being at Jacobs family cabin in Virginia inspired me to finally finish it, polish a few more edges, and make a video for you.

CHICKADEE

by Melody Walker

Oh, little chickadee

Sing your song for me, ahh

I haven't heard it in a while

Conjur a melody

to keep me company, ahh

I haven't heard it in a while

Hawk on a highway sign

Crows on a power line, ahh

They watch me drive by

Blacktop scavengers

Vulture and cattlebird, ahh

They wait for my demise

Home like a hummingbird

Drawn to the nectar, ahh

I ain't been here in a while

Feels so familiar

Sweetness inside of her, ahh

I ain't been here in a while

Was that your song I heard?

Or was it a mockingbird?
