For anyone who doesn't know, a drum-cover or drum-over is any drummer covering another groups music. A drum play-though is the actual groups drummer playing their own music and a drum-thingy is my own personal take on the whole idea.
In this video I am actually triggering the song wav file. (Not the stems) I chopped it up into short pieces for my kick, snares, toms and e-hats to trigger while I play the other drum parts.. Its pretty deep stuff but fun and odd to play once I finally programmed it. Took about a full day to program and another day of further programming to get it sounding decent enough to play.. I wanted to keep all the weird mistakes and trigger misfires in here to show that it's live and unedited.
I took the stereo wav file and chopped it up into 8 different sections. I just right clicked and turned the audio file into midi notes inside a rack with 1/2 notes and some 1/4 notes. Then I used the ableton's midi pitch plugin's to move along the track playback. I set all the midi notes to my kick, snares, toms and hihat pads to play the song while playing other drum parts.
