PIGSquad at PAX Prime 2014 & More Portland Opportunities!
Had a great time at PAX this year… I met so many awesome devs and spent a lot of time with other PIGSquadders, and it was so easy to brag about Portland's gamedev scene – Skullduggery in the PAX 10, Hard Lander with Ouya, and Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake at the Cartoon Network booth made three PIGSquad games on the show floor! One immediate result of our trip was, as always, my desire to return to Seattle for indie events more often. The local community was able to host two great events in the midst of PAX: their monthly Invisible Arcade and the annually-returning Seattle SIX showcase. If anyone ever gets a hankerin' for meeting up or heading up to Seattle, remind me: it's not too far! Would love to set something up sometime before the next PAX Prime to visit the wonderful minds and friends behind Sentris, Risk of Rain, Second Sons, tinyBuild, and so many more awesome projects! I was able to pick up some awesome new opportunities for developers in PIGSquad. Not long before PAX, I began speaking with ONI Press to see if they would be interested in having local developers make games for their properties (which is in swing currently), but there are plenty more avenues via this year's PAX trip: our friend from Humble Bundle is planning on visiting sometime soon, I'm in touch with Cartoon Network about hosting a jam or continued development period for upcoming projects, and I'll be keeping my eyes open for Portland games that may fit the wants of multiple publishers I met over the weekend. Overall, a good haul for connections! Also spoke with a couple of developers about sharing their projects with us for our expos, tournaments, and game nights! Be looking forward to multiplayer games like SpeedRunners, Screen Cheat, and Extreme Exorcism – we gotta get playin' soon! If you made any connections at PAX, including developers, publishers, or journalists, let me know! I'd love to connect others in PIGSquad; it's awesome that Portland's been getting so much recognition, and I can't wait to keep the train rollin'! Catch you this weekend at OMSI Mini Maker Faire and in a few weeks in Eugene at the Indie Game Con – keep on the lookout for showcase opportunities and our big meeting with Design Week Portland at the beginning of this next month!
