We begin the final installment of our five part series diving into the ghost story classic, Steven Spielberg's, Poltergeist. Continuing from episode 4, we are start in the tub, where both mom and the rescued Carol Anne awake. Tangina takes a moment to pose for the camera before declaring, "This house is clean."
The next day, it's apparent the Freeling family is packing and preparing to move out of their home. Steven leaves to put in his final resignation and tells his wife, Diane, that if the kids get sleepy, to put them to bed and they will all head to the Holiday Inn on I-74 when he gets back. Dana leaves to spend time with her boyfriend while mom decides she is going to color the gray streaks that have formed at her temples.
While mom draws a bath and the kids put themselves to sleep, Robbie attempts to cover the clown with his jacket like he did weeks earlier. The jacket misses, but he doesn't bother to pick it up. Both he and Carol Anne drift off to sleep. But, just as Robbie is almost fully asleep, he hears something move across his bedroom floor. He sits up and realizes the clown is no longer in the chair. He looks off both sides of his bed and believes he is safe when the clown is now on his bed, coiling his arm around Robbie's neck like a snake before pulling him underneath.
Mom lying on the bed after her bath, hears the cries and tries to get up, only to be molested by some invisible force. She is tossed across the walls and the ceiling by the malevolent force before finally making her way to the door to the hall. As she makes her way to Robbie and Carol Anne's door, the shape of the Beast forms, roaring at her. It will not allow her to enter their room. She tumbles down the stairs and as she tries to climb, is shocked by a burst of electricity. She then tries to open the front door, only to be shocked again. Undeterred, she gets outside, trying to find another way into the kids' bedroom, only to slip into the muddy hole dug for their soon-to-be installed pool. She is greeted by one corpse after another, rising from the ground.
After being pulled out of the pool by Ben, their neighbor, and his wife, she runs back inside and after a dizzying trick of the mind, is able to run into their room. She is almost pulled into the gaping maw that has formed at the closet door. Reaching for her kids, she is able to pull them to safety just as Steven arrives with Mr. Teague trailing. Steven realizes all hell is breaking loose and tries to rescue Diane and his family, only to be thwarted by coffins and corpses shooting up from the ground.
Eventually, they circle around and get to the car as Dana is dropped off. Mr. Teague is confronted over his not moving the bodies, only the headstones. As the Freeling's drive off, the power of the Beast creates an anomaly that sucks the entire house into the light, all before the unbelieving eyes of Mr. Teague.
The movies ends with the family checking into a Holiday Inn and dad moving the TV outside.
