Potential New Market? Write about Soldierly Work!

For the first time, editors of "Workers Write!", a literary journal that explores themes of "working class" employment and labor, have issued an open call for an unthemed issue. Deadline is Dec. 31, 2019 or until the issue is full. Editors will consider prose (fiction and non-fiction) and poetry.

The "Workers Write!" journal is published regularly by Blue Cubicle Press, Plano, Texas. Prose word count for the journal is from 500 to 5,000 words.

Previously published material can be considered.
Payment depends on length, and varies between $5 and $50 per accepted item.

Issues of "Workers Write!" are typically themed and titled with a variation on the original "Tales from the Cubicle" (office work). Issues are available in print and PDF editions via the Blue Cubicle Press website. For print and Kindle editions via Amazon, click here.

Examples of past "Workers Write!" themes include: "Tales from the Clinic" (medical work); "Tales from the Courtroom" (legal work); and "Tales from the Coliseum" (sports work). Others include "Tales from the Classroom" (education work); "Tales from the Cash Register" (retail work); and "Tales from the Construction Site" (construction work).

In 2011, the press published "Tales from the Combat Zone" (military work), which indicates an editorial openness to military-themed writing. Amazon listing for that issue is here.

Additionally, the press publishes from four to six "Overtime" chapbooks annually, in both print and e-book editions. These one-story chapbooks comprise content that is too long for the "Workers Write!" journal.

"Overtime" selections are usually between 5,000 and 10,000 words, in which work is a central theme. Individual "Overtime" editions are creatively labelled "hours" on Blue Cubicle Press website.
