The problem the poor face.

People who cannot afford legal representation are often those who need it the most. They can qualify for legal aid but that system comes with a deliberate hook. On legal aid for a lot of cases people do not get to choose who represents them. They used to but when the government created the Public Defence Service they removed counsel of choice so that a significant number of people would have no option other than to  be represented by the Public Defence Service. That way the government established it's monopoly. In my view this was done to gain greater control over "the criminal class" and ensure greater integration with its massive prison system.
