Project Update - 2018 Summary
We at Lost Pilgrims will always remember 2018 as the year when it all began to come together, the year when everything changed for us. It was the year when development on Vagrus got out of the preparation phase and into hardcore production.
Now that this crucial year is done and over with, we felt it would behoove us to recount how 2018 went for those of you interested (and for posterity!).
January
- Nobo, Geri, and Sztaszov has been working full time for months by this time, laying the foundation in design, code, project management, writing and so on
- We started developing campaign map movement and companion combat basics
- We received the first portfolios from character graphic artists
February
- We were interviewing graphic artists and gave out trial work
- Map movement 'minimum viable product' (MVP) 1 was finished
March
- Szonja joins the team full time as character and UI artist
- We started collaborating with other illustrators (mainly for environment art)
- Companion combat MVP 1 was finished
- Vagrus.com goes live
April
- More and more art assets are in the works
- Companion combat MVP 2 was finished
May
- We decided on the title of the game to be Vagrus - The Riven Realms
- Companion and Leader Perk system was created
- We started working with Iván and Zoli, our contributing writers
- Companion combat UI revamp 1
June
- Marci joins the team to complete his summer internship as a Software Engineer
- Vagrus main screen took shape
- Our first Fan Art came in :)
July
- Vagrus - The Riven Realms | Teaser #1 released
- Pre-Alpha Crew UI screens were added to the game
- Steam store page went live
August
- Pre-Alpha Leader UI screen was added to the game
- Pre-Alpha Camp mechanics were implemented
- The Codex was added to the game
- Shared an article about the conception and journey of the setting for Vagrus, entitled How the Riven Realms came to be
September
- The Chart was added to the game after extensive planning and drawing
- We implemented the Journal to serve as the 'quest log' in Vagrus
- We published an article on how we approached Narrative design
- We started to plug in the tutorial and narrative scripts for the Prologue
October
- We celebrated the 1 Year Anniversary of Lost Pilgrims as a studio
- The story content of the Prologue was finished
- Vagrus was featured on GameJolt, and got 500+ new followers in a few days
- Companion combat UI revamp 2
- The first play testing of the Prologue of Vagrus commenced
November
- The closed Alpha testing of the Prologue started by a few dozen awesome volunteers
- We posted a Narration preview
- Companion combat MVP 3 was finished
- Added Credits/Options/Extras to the main menu of the game
December
- We reached 1000 followers on GameJolt
- The cinematic intro of Vagrus was finalized (Teaser here)
- We released the Prologue first on GameJolt then on itch.io
- More than a score of Let's play videos have been added on Youtube/Twitch/Mixer
- Fans played and watched Vagrus Prologue for over 500 man-days (which equals over 12,000 hours)
