Purim: Celebrating God’s End-Time Victories over Evil

Verse of the Day:

“So these days were to be remembered and celebrated throughout every generation, every family, every province and every city; and these days of Purim were not to cease from among the Jews, nor their memory fade from their descendants.” (ESTHER 9:28 AMP)

Hi dear patron,

The feast of Purim is so important such that it is decreed in God’s word to be celebrated for all generations, and I believe it will still celebrated during eternity on the new earth.

The origin story is that during the reign of King Ahasuerus, a wicked vizier called Haman wanted to destroy all the Jews in the empire just because Mordecai (who was a Jew) didn’t bow to him to show him respect.

So Haman instigated the king to pass a decree for the destruction of the Jews and he cast lots (in Hebrew: pur, hence the name “Purim” for the feast) to decide the date when the Jews should be massacred.

The lots cast fell on the 13th day of the month of Adar - a day determined for evil for the Jews.

However, to give a short summary, by the intervention of God behind the scenes, Haman was executed on the gallows that he built to kill Mordecai.

Mordecai took over Haman’s position to become the second most powerful man in the empire besides the king, and passed a new decree saying that the Jews could defend themselves on the 13th day of the month of Adar, instead of waiting for death.

So on that day, with God’s help, fear of the Jews struck the entire empire and the Jews defeated all their attackers.

Those Jews in the capital Susa fought one more day on the 14th, and defeated more enemies.

So a day that was meant for evil turned into a day of victory for the Jews.

Since then, the Jews celebrate the 14th and 15th days of the month of Adar in commemoration of this event.

Phew, that was my own summary of the background story of the feast of Purim and now that we have established that, let’s move on to what Purim really symbolizes and why God put it in the Jews’ hearts to celebrate this feast for all generations.

For this devotional I believe that the 13th, 14th and 15th days of the month of Adar can be interpreted in God’s prophetic days, which means that one prophetic day is equivalent to 1000 human years:

“Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day.” (2 PETER 3:8 AMP)

So the 13th day represents the period of 1000 years where the Great Tribulation will take place, as well as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

There is one very interesting link in the Book of Esther regarding this:

“Now in the twelfth month (that is, the month of Adar) on the thirteenth day when the king’s command and edict were about to be executed, on the [very] day when the enemies of the Jews had hoped to gain power over them [and slaughter them], it happened the other way around so that the Jews themselves gained power over those who hated them. The Jews assembled in their cities throughout the provinces of King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) to apprehend those who wanted to do them harm; and no one could stand before them, for the fear of them [and their God] had fallen on all the peoples. Even all the officials of the provinces and the chief rulers (satraps) and the governors and those who attended to the king’s business supported the Jews [in defeating their enemies], because the fear of Mordecai [and his God’s power] had fallen on them. For Mordecai was great and respected in the king’s palace, and his fame spread throughout all the provinces; for the man Mordecai became greater and greater. So the Jews struck all their enemies with the sword, killing and destroying them; and they did what they pleased to those who hated them. At the citadel in Susa the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men, and [they killed] Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha, the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jews’ enemy; but they did not lay their hands on the plunder.” (ESTHER 9:1-10 AMP)

Mordecai represents Jesus, Haman represents the antichrist (the beast) and the “ten sons of Haman” represent the ten kings who will ally themselves with the antichrist:

“And the beast that [once] was but is not, is himself also an eighth king and is one of the seven, and he goes to destruction (perdition). The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but [together] they receive authority as kings for a single hour [for a common purpose] along with the beast. These [kings] have one purpose [one mind, one common goal], and they give their power and authority to the beast. They will wage war against the Lamb (Christ), and the Lamb will triumph and conquer them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him and on His side are the called and chosen (elect) and faithful.”” (REVELATION 17:11-14 AMP)

Haman was already dead, and his ten sons and all the attackers were slain by the Jews on the 13th day.

This is like how the antichrist, the ten kings, and all the antichrist armies will be destroyed at Jesus’ Second Coming:

“Then I saw the beast and the kings and political leaders of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against Him who is mounted on the [white] horse and against His army. And the beast (Antichrist) was seized and overpowered, and with him the false prophet who, in his presence, had performed [amazing] signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were hurled alive into the lake of fire which blazes with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds fed ravenously and gorged themselves with their flesh.” (REVELATION 19:19-21 AMP)

On that day, we will already be in our spiritual bodies (for the Rapture has already happened) and we'll return to earth as members of Jesus’ triumphant heavenly army, to wage war against the antichrist.

That’s like the Jews fighting against their enemies on the 13th day.

Remember I mentioned that the Jews in Susa fought an extra day on the 14th? Jerusalem is one of the cities that celebrates Purim on the 15th because they fought on the 14th:

“Esther replied, “If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Susa to act tomorrow also in accordance with the decree of today; and let [the dead bodies of] Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.” So the king commanded it to be done; the decree was given in Susa, and they hanged [the bodies of] Haman’s ten sons. The Jews who were in Susa also gathered together on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and killed three hundred men in Susa, but they did not lay their hands on the plunder.” (ESTHER 9:13-15 AMP)

From the 13th day to the 14th day is a fast-forward of another 1000 years.

This happens after the Millennial Reign of Christ where Jesus rules on earth for 1000 years.

Let’s see how Jerusalem will fight against its enemies on the 14th day, which is at the end of the Millennial Reign of Christ:

“And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison (the abyss), and will come out to deceive and mislead the nations which are in the four corners of the earth--[including] Gog and Magog--to gather them together for the war; their number is like the sand of the seashore. And they swarmed up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints (God’s people) and the beloved city [ Jerusalem]; but fire came down from heaven and consumed them. And the devil who had deceived them was hurled into the lake of fire and burning brimstone (sulfur), where the beast (Antichrist) and false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night, forever and ever.” (REVELATION 20:7-10 AMP)

God will fight for Jerusalem: He will destroy Satan and all the wicked armies on that day by burning up the earth with divine fire from heaven

I believe that only Jerusalem and its inhabitants will be spared (since the fire burns up the enemies who surround Jerusalem but doesn't say that it burns everyone in Jerusalem as well), and then the Great White Throne Judgment will come.

So the 15th day is the time of eternity on the new earth where both our Heavenly Father and Jesus will dwell with us forever in New Jerusalem.

This is why the 14th and 15th days of the month of Adar are celebrated:

“This was done on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar, and on the fourteenth day they rested and made it a day of feasting and rejoicing. But the Jews who were in Susa assembled on the thirteenth and on the fourteenth of the same month, and on the fifteenth day they rested and made it a day of feasting and rejoicing.” (ESTHER 9:17-18 AMP)

They foreshadow the peaceful times of the Millennial Reign of Christ (14th day) and eternity with God in New Jerusalem (15th day) as well as God’s victories over the forces of evil that will usher in those times of peace.

“Now Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the Jews who lived in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far, obliging them to celebrate the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same month, annually, because on those days the Jews rid themselves of their enemies, and as the month which was turned for them from grief to joy and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and rejoicing and sending choice portions of food to one another and gifts to the poor.” (ESTHER 9:20-22 AMP)

In the future when the antichrist seems to be about to capture Jerusalem into his hand (read about it in Zechariah 14), Jesus will return to save Israel and destroy their enemies!

Truly, a day of grief will be turned into joy!

“Shout for joy, O Daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O Israel! Rejoice, be in high spirits and glory with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem [in that day]! The LORD has taken away the judgments against you; He has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, even the LORD [Himself], is in your midst; You will no longer fear disaster. In that day it will be said to Jerusalem: “Do not be afraid, O Zion; Do not let your hands fall limp. “The LORD your God is in your midst, A Warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with joy; He will be quiet in His love [making no mention of your past sins], He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” (ZEPHANIAH 3:14-17 AMP)

God wants the Jews to celebrate the Feast of Purim for all generations because He probably wants them to meditate on how He saves them from their enemies, to be conscious of the divine protection they have from Him despite all the tribulations they go through.

As for us, we can meditate on the true significance of Purim based on the revelation shared in this devotional and be confident that the devil has no chance of succeeding against God or His children (that's us!).

If you are going through a seemingly evil day right now, take heart because God is about to turn your grief into joy - your mourning into a day to be celebrated.

Rejoice in faith and watch as God delivers your enemies into your hand to be slain, and ushers in a reign of peace in your life. This I declare to you and your family, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
