Real Life Welcome To The Zone Sketches: Tasha Tigerbaum
Many of the characters in WELCOME TO THE ZONE are based on people I knew in the New York music and poetry scenes during the 80s and 90s. Here are some drawings from my sketchbook of a few of them, paired with panels showing their WELCOME TO THE ZONE equivalents.

Sarah Hauser is a model for Tasha Tigerbaum’s white rapper act, but not  her appearance- that I took from Eve Teitelbaum, an East Village poet I  never had a chance to draw. Sarah’s raps were memorably angry, anguished screeds against junkie boyfriends, shitty bosses, and A&R men who wouldn’t give her a record contract, but she’s mellowed considerably in years since. She now works  as a reiki therapist for cats- apparently that’s a thing.
