Reclaiming Ourselves Showcase
Hello my loves!! Today I want to promote an art event in Murfreesboro, TN that I participate in every year called Reclaiming Ourselves Showcase. It is an art show for and about survivors of domestic violence, and it is very near and dear to my heart. As some of you already know, I have a very complicated relationship with domestic violence, having been a victim and a perpetrator in the past. Being raised with violence led me to believe that everyone lived like that, with violence as part of their every day lives, and I attached myself to proverbs like "You only hurt the ones you love," and told myself "This pain proves they love me." It took me many years to learn that other people didn't live their lives in physical, emotional, and psychological distress, and I have since dedicated myself to nonviolence. It is still a struggle to stay committed to nonviolence when my ingrained instinct from childhood is to rage out at all times, but it has been a worthy journey that I will continue to rededicate myself to every day. The Reclaiming Ourselves showcase is in the gallery of Todd Hall at Middle Tennessee State University, and their opening night is tomorrow evening from 5:00-7:00pm. There will be live music and tons of good people, so go go go!!! Event link: All my love, Sophie
