Well, we made it through April Fool's Day unscathed...... Did anybody get seriously pranked? We tried the Saran Wrap toilet seat on our son, but he was too smart. Oh well....
I want to, once again, send out a big wave of gratitude to all of you, my patrons. Thanks to you, I may be able to finish my album!!!!!!!!
(I can't tell whether I'm posting too much or too little here on Patreon. It's still a work-in-progress, and I'm a slow learner....)
Anyway, I know that Patreon isn't a place for advertisements, but I have to get the word out about our Reggae Samba Kirtan in Fairfax on April 16th. (I guess this is only meaningful for my Northern California patrons.) I've always explored the possibilities of dressing up Kirtan in a myriad of different musical styles. The Mantras are deities, and why would they want to wear the same clothes every day?
About eight years ago (I think), Nubia, Ezra and I were in Northeast Brasil on a vacation. Through a bunch of little coincidences, we were invited to a huge Rathayatra Festival where the Murtis of Jagganath, Baladeva and Subhadra were pulled in enormous chariots to the beach, accompanied by wild Samba drumming and the Maha Mantra!!!! I can only say "WOW!!!!" Here was the ancient science of Mantra completely integrated with the local musical culture. No separation. And, although I didn't REALLY need it, I felt I was given full permission to continue my musical/devotional/kirtan explorations.
So this Kirtan Concert will be an extension of that experience...... Come and dance and sing and have a blast.
Oh, and the best part - for me - is that my son's Rock & Roll band, EMPIRE!, will be our opening act!!!!!
That's it for now.
Lots of love,
