One of the reasons that film noir has persisted in the cultural massmind is because films noir are so often epistemological. Questions of "who am I?" or "what really happened" or even "what is real?" or "what is identity?" litter films like Somewhere in the Night and No Man of Her Own and Dark Passage and Hollow Triumph.
Returned to Life
Looking at the German film, Phoenix, on my movie blog this morning. It becomes increasingly clear that 2015 is a terrific year for movies as the year wears on, and we're not even to the heart of award season yet. Phoenix is amazing, one of my favorite films of the year.
