(A Meet-the-artist video and gratitude post.)
Still working as part-time support staff for a local essential business while advocating in service of the Allegany Arts Association, Belfast Organization For Artists, and Rise Above Holistic Wellness Center; I am cautiously optimistic about returning to my studio in 2022.

....................................Still Standing currently on display in Wellsville, NY......................................................
Still Standing, my first Creative Wellness art project shared with the public in 2009, is currently on display at the Rise Above Holistic Wellness Center in Wellsville, NY.
"Still Standing is a photographic documentation of the cyclic nature of the chronic pain experience. Each frame demonstrates the artist's interpretation of a season in the cycle of coping with chronic pain. The work illustrates the balance that may be found in adaptation. The paper sculpture process was used as part of the artist's personal healing process to recover fine motor skills from May to September 2009. Each photograph displayed in the series is an original photo taken by the artist on the Genesee Valley Greenway in Belfast, NY. Each photo represents a stopping point as the artist recovered coordination and a commitment to walk independently.
This work is intended for display in pain management and rehabilitation clinics.

THE "ABOUT THE ARTIST" PART
A multi-media artist with a diverse professional and educational history, Sheila is a spinal cord injury survivor (2007) implementing the arts as a creative tool in her holistic approach to personal Independent Sustainable Wellness.
Creatively striving to participate in the community of life, Sheila shares her wellness experiences as a Creative Wellness Facilitator offering affordable Creative Wellness Workshops in her community as COVID permits.
Actively involved in the local arts community, Sheila continues to support and empower fellow survivors, local artists, and entrepreneurs via Creative Community Action projects keeping the arts accessible and affordable to all members of our rural community.
"I am a painter, photographer, illustrator, writer, arts educator, Creative Wellness facilitator, and studio owner in Upstate New York working to achieve vocational rehabilitation self-employment goals after a medical mistake/spinal cord injury (2007) during a routine knee arthroscopy left me unemployable and unable to teach (K-12 art). I started the Art for Arachnoiditis Project for fellow spinal arachnoiditis survivors in 2014.
Originally a one-to-one survivor portrait project; it grew into an international resource for fellow survivors on the site I created for us at artforarachnoiditis.org (Fiscally sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts from 2014-2018). Though this has resulted in the completion of numerous self-prescribed physical milestones in my own recovery, is a source of connection, and has become a rewarding achievement in its own right; it doesn't exactly pay the bills.
… AND I have MORE art to make to share.
An arts advocate for life; my studio business and creative works are built around the concept of accessible and affordable art.
