This is a study to understand the beautiful folds and patterns and semi-translucent quality of light within a rose. From the photograph I took, I've traced an outline with pan-pastel. Pastels are pure pigment and will mix and integrate with the layers of paint on top. Lead from a pencil would show through(this would also be an interesting effect). I'm working with a limited color pallet so it is easier to focus on the accuracy of the value scale (the range from light to dark). In the end there will be no lines, just the shift in value from light to dark to define the form of each petal.
