Safety and vulnerability
I know you're all here for the cute baby sketches, and I'm gonna do my best to get back to making them soon, because I'm humbled and grateful to see that they make people smile. But right now I just want to say that I stand with refugees, immigrants, people of color, LGBTQI people, and my fellow women, against cruelty and hate. I live some measure of my life in comics, and sharing myself and my family leaves me vulnerable, but I believe that acts of sharing also leave us open to empathy and understanding, and I won't stop doing it. I hope that you do it, too. Share photos and sketches and thoughts, share yourself so that we can make connections and understand people who are not like us. Tell your stories so that we can see what it's like to be you. Especially if you are angry or afraid, please tell your stories so that we are able to see faces and families and beliefs, rather than simply likes or impersonal reposts. That vulnerability is scary, yes, but please please try to share yourself with the world if you can, because I want to know your stories and I want to understand.
