It was an exciting creative process when we worked on this twenty two foot, stainless steel sculpture. I have to admit that when the cut steel arrived and we moved it into our tiny workshop, I got cold feet and suggested to my son Samuel that maybe we should make it shorter. I was worried that we would not be able to handle the massive weight in our small space. But Samuel would have nothing to do with that idea and insisted that we go for the full dimensions. And so we did! It worked out very well. We decided to simply shove the completed sections out the window as needed and keep adding the new sections until the full length was done. It was very heavy but we did manage. Sometimes it takes the older generation to stay out of the way and let the youth do there thing:)
This sculpture is a combination of our ideas but it definitely is mostly Samuel Houston's design. I think he did a terrific job!
We won the call for a sculpture contest and set it up in Sidney BC Canada for about a year and a half. After that we moved the sculpture to it's permanent location at our Peace Garden in central Sannich, BC near Victoria. My next post will show how we installed it at the peace garden at Woodwynn Farms.
