So… the plan has slightly changed. But that isn’t a bad thing!
The bad news first - making a full series of videos to release together (as has been the plan) has proven a little more difficult than envisaged. I can’t compromise on quality and the time and costs of putting it all together are just a little out of reach currently.
As I’ve said before - making these videos takes a lot of time, effort, research and money; and putting all that together for a decent length series has proven to be a huge challenge!
So the plan has slightly changed and I’ve decided to ensure that instead I put out at least one video per month currently. With the current level of your support and the (very) small amount of ad revenue I’m getting, that is what is achievable.
The good news? I’ve created a new goal on Patreon… if we hit that goal then I will be able to spend a little more time creating and will increase output to more than one video per month! Basically, the more support we get, the more content I can produce! I’m careful not to be greedy - this project has cost me quite a bit so far and every penny made (and more!) has always gone straight back into making the videos. Of course, it would be nice to do this full time (I wish! 😮) and be able to pay the bills, but that is maybe something for the longer term future… 🤔
And… I’ve set another stretch goal - if we hit that then I will create a companion podcast where we talk more in depth about the subjects of the videos, give some behind-the-scenes insights and chat about other Sheffield goings-on - hopefully with a few very special guests!
What about these monthly videos then?
Here’s the really, really good news… the next video is coming possibly sooner than you think!
“THE SHEFFIELD GUIDE TO THE MEGATRON AND HIDDEN RIVERS: An urban exploration beneath the city” will premiere on YouTube at 7pm on Wednesday 12 February!
(Watch it here!)
Frankly, this is unmissable… Did you know that when you’re stood on the platforms at Sheffield Train Station there is a river running right below you? We go into the culverts of the Porter Brook and river Sheaf and head underneath the train station!
From there we follow those culverts under Ponds Forge and beyond to the infamous Megatron storm drain. It was all made possible by the amazing people at the Sheaf and Porter Rivers Trust, who were excellent guides, giving us a remarkable amount of information and history - and a glimpse into future plans for bringing the Sheaf and Porter back into Sheffield.
Oh, and there is a scary moment where I genuinely thought I was going to die.
Honestly, don’t miss it! Subscribe to the YouTube channel now to make sure you’re notified when the video goes live (and so you don’t miss future videos!)!
As ever, your support is incredible and appreciated - a big thank you to everyone who watches, likes, comments and shares the videos, it really does make a huge difference (if you could do so once it goes live, that would be amazing - the first few hours/days are really important in terms of getting into YouTube’s algorithms and search results so more people can watch it!).
Here are a few photos of what you can expect in the video:
