SNEAK PEEK: Nightmare Before Christmas Family Portrait

Here's a sneak peek at a recent commission I completed. It's a family portrait (including dog) done in the theme of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Because there was a delay in getting it done, due to a super busy October, I threw in a few unexpected extras, including some of the movie characters and the colored inkwash in the background - my attempt at making the wait worth it.

The only mishap while finishing the piece was that the original watercolor paper I'd used did not like artist's tape; when I lifted the tape, the surface of the paper came up with it. I had to start all over, wasting 3 hours of work. I'll likely talk about it in an upcoming process post. The inkwash was difficult because there were a lot of nooks and crannies I need to paint within while trying to approximate a fade from top to bottom.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. The likenesses are really close, and the expressions - especially on the kids' faces - capture their personalities.
