So What's Next?

A lot has happened in the last two weeks.

I’m sure there are many who would urge me not to be vocal about my political stance, especially in my public persona as an author, but some things are too important not to be vocal about. Some things go far beyond politics, and have more to do with our basic humanity.

I am extremely disappointed, frustrated and alarmed by the results of this election. Donald Trump is a dangerous man, and that danger is magnified exponentially with the presidency in his hands. I won’t go on at length in this venue, but I will not be silent, either. Some might urge me to keep this to myself, or wish that I would so that their views can persist unchallenged, but I won’t do that. Silence is tolerance. I have no tolerance for bullying, bigotry, misogyny, racism or fascism. No one should.

Having said this, I have no intention of converting this space into a continuing platform for political views. I prefer to address these issues elsewhere when possible, to offer readers an opportunity for a solid bit of escapism. The real world can’t be ignored, but we all need a break from it at times, so that we can rest, recharge and thus be ready to face whatever the next day brings.

So what’s up next? If you’re still reading this, I hope you will understand when I tell you that, right now, I simply don’t have the heart to continue exploring a twisted, nightmarish version of the world we know. It all feels a little too close to home at this point. Undone New England isn’t dead—it’s only just begun, after all! Consider this instead to be a seasonal break. When I’m ready to revisit Jolene Wilde’s spooky world, you’ll be the first to know. Perhaps it will make a return next autumn. Perhaps sooner.

In the meantime, I’m not simply shutting down my writing. There’s been a pause—too lengthy, in my opinion, though much needed—but more stories are coming very soon. In lieu of the horrifying familiarity of Undone New England, I’m going to start something new, something more adventurous, more fantastical and much less familiar. Something that I hope will offer an occasional break from the stresses of our world and allow us, from time to time, to immerse ourselves in a completely different one.

I’ll be sharing more soon.
