You say "Before the Big Bang was no time,

To ask what went before is meaningless."

And yet to me it seems absurd no less

To say "Before the Big Bang was no time."

Without time how could there be a before,

Without before, how could a Bang take place?

A hardpacked mass exploded, forming space.

That kind of change is just what time is for.

Grant that it happened by pure happenstance,

Grant that no spirit moved, no angels sang;

Time had to be there, otherwise, no Bang.

Without the beat you cannot start the dance.

This is, at least, the way it seems to me;

Loftier minds are free to disagree.
