Look Ma, TWO Hands!

For the FIRST TIME since the onset of arachnoiditis in 2007, you will see at about the 6:45 mark; I am finally able to use both hands as I work. Painting and drawing with both hands most of my life; I once took this ability for granted.

After the onset of arachnoiditis I was barely able to paint with my right hand. My left hand was a complete rebel back then. I began to suspect I would never be able to really paint again.

I went through a period of depression and frustration trying to find some way to keep making art. I began taking photographs to try to fill this need. Eventually, I developed a paper sculpture project, Still Standing , which served as a personal rehabilitation process to allow my hands to figure out a new way of communicating with each other.

Slowly, I resumed painting with my right hand.

Then, this last week; as I tried to accommodate the camera to film the portrait in progress my Left hand just snuck it's way back in as I finished the Arachnoiditis Survivor Portrait for Linda.  I certainly don't trust it to complete the fine details it once did but, this is a start.
