MORNING  | HISTORICAL BOOKS

BOOK 11 of 66  | 1 Kings 8

Signpost Words | ‘DEDICATED WITH EXPECTATION’

Highlight Verses | 1 Kings 8:23-28

“YHWH God of Israel, there is no God like you, either in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keeps covenant and mercy with Your servants that walk before You with all their heart, Who have kept, along with Your servant David my father, that which You promised him. You have both spoke with Your mouth, and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this very day. Therefore now, O YHWH God of Israel, along with Your servant David my father, keep that which You also promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man in My sight to sit on the throne of Israel. Therefore, make sure that your children take heed to their way, that they walk before Me just as You have walked before Me.’ And now, O God of Israel, let Your word, I pray You, come to pass, even that which you spoke to Your servant David my father. But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You! How much less then this house that I have built? Yet have regard to the prayer of your servant, and to his supplication, O YHWH my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer, which Your servant prays before You today, (NSB)

Some Observations |

Now then, this was one heaven of a national convocation, and a wonder of a Divine invocation to ratify and bless the covenant and the personal words spoken over David and his family line.

Final Reflections |

It is good to build those things which shall be ‘the abode of God,’ and it is right that such things such be dedicated with expectation.

EVENING | HISTORICAL BOOKS

BOOK 11 of 66  | 1 Kings 9

Signpost Words | ‘BEGINNINGS CAN BE GOOD’

Highlight Verses | 1 Kings 9:3-9

And YHWH said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication, --> and I have hallowed this house,  -->  to put My Name there forever, and My eyes and My heart shall be there perpetually. Now, if you will walk before Me, as David your father walked, in integrity and in uprightness of heart, to do according to all that I have commanded you,  -->  Then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I promised to David your father,  -->  But if you or your children shall in any way turn from following Me, and will not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them, Then will I cut off Israel from the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for My Name, I will cast out of My sight, and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people, And every one that passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at this exalted house; and they shall say, ‘Why has YHWH done this to this land, and to this house?’ And they shall answer, ‘Because they forsook YHWH their God, who brought their fathers out from of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them, therefore, YHWH brought upon them all this evil calamity” (NSB)

Some Observations |

God graciously responds to the invocation, & mostly with a warning!

Final Reflections |

But, continual commitments are better and good endings are the best.
