TFOTB | March 13th | Reading 073 of 366 |

MORNING  | PENTATEUCH

BOOK 05 of 66  | Deuteronomy 5,6

Signpost Words | ‘YOU WHO ARE ALIVE TODAY’

Highlight Verses | Deuteronomy 5:1-4

And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your hearing today, that you may learn them and be careful to observe them. YAHWEH our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. YAHWEH did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive. (NSB)

Some Observations |

I write these notes at the turn of the 21st Century. I think it shall be the last century before the return of Christ. However, only the Father knows. Even so we see the several major anniversaries. The 400th..........  the anniversary of the King James Bible, and the 400th of the sailing of the Mayflower, and of course, the 500th anniversary of the reformation. Even so, and of this we must take note, our God is the God of the living and in particular of those living on the earth now, today, yes those who are alive today.

Final Reflections  |

This 2nd recounting of the law is to those survivors of the wilderness wanderings, to those who were below their 21st year when they saw YAHWEH descend with fire upon Horeb, even the children of those who died in the wilderness over the last 40 years. I say again then, God is speaking through His word to YOU, to YOU who are alive and here today. He is not speaking to your spiritual fathers, those great men of the church who have gone before. He is not speaking to Tyndale, to Luther, to Calvin, to Bradford, He is speaking to YOU, even to us who are alive and here today. God’s activity with the covenant of grace is toward you and with you who are alive today.

EVENING | PENTATEUCH

BOOK 05 of 66  | Deuteronomy 7

Signpost Words | ‘INTENT ON UTTER DESTRUCTION’

Highlight Verses | Deuteronomy 7:17-25

“If you should say in your heart, 'These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?' even so, you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt: the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which YAHWEH your God brought you out. So shall YAHWEH your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. In addition YAHWEH your God will send the hornet among them until those who are left, who hide themselves from you, are destroyed. You shall not be terrified of them; for the Lord your God, the great and awesome God, is among you. And the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. But the Lord your God will deliver them over to you, and will inflict defeat upon them until they are destroyed. à and you will destroy their name from under heaven; no one shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them. (NSB)

Some Observations |

Sinful pollution, spiritual degradation and the warping of humanity had now reached monstrous proportions among these people.

Final Reflections  |

God’s intention was to remove any remembrance of these evil people and their practices from under heaven. This was the ‘God-War,’ the ‘Wars of YAHWEH,’ and His policy was of ‘No Mercy’ whatsoever.
