BOOK 06 of 66  | Joshua 19

Signpost Words | ‘LIVING ON LEFTOVERS’

Highlight Verses | Joshua 19:9

The inheritance of the children of Simeon was included in the share of the children of Judah, for the share of the children of Judah was just too much for them. Therefore the children of Simeon had their inheritance within the inheritance of that people.  NSB

Some Observations |

In Genesis 49:5-7, Jacob prophesied concerning Simeon that, “Simeon and Levi are brothers; Instruments of cruelty are in their dwelling place. Let not my soul enter their council; Let not my honor be united to their assembly; For in their anger they slew a man, And in their self-will they hamstrung an ox. Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; And their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob, And scatter them in Israel. (NKJV)

Final Reflections  |

So Levi finds themselves with no land and select Levitical cities. Yet still greatly honored. Simeon however, though large when leaving Egypt is small when entering the land, so small in fact, that they get the leftovers of Judah, the lions whelp. Holy, God directed war is one thing, Simeon and Levi however, were vengeful pirates, cruel anarchists, and mouth wiping pillagers. Simeon and Levi were like ‘Gas and Fire,’ highly combustible when together, thus God judged them and their offspring, diminished them, and dispersed them within Israel. Now look, who hasn’t got family members that are like Gas and Fire! The sins of the fathers and that spiritual propensity to the same does pass generationally. This curse on Simeon manifested itself in littleness, and do so that Israel might not explode and burn. Some brothers, just need keeping apart and need diminishing. FACT.

EVENING | HISTORICAL BOOKS

BOOK 06 of 66  | Joshua 20,21

Signpost Words | ‘THE FIERCE BUNCH REDEEMED’

Highlight Verses | Joshua 21:1-3

Then the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites came near to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the children of Israel. And they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, "The Lord commanded through Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with their common-lands for our livestock." So the children of Israel gave to the Levites from their inheritance, at the commandment of the Lord, these cities and their common-lands: NKJV

Some Observations |

Concerning Levi and Simeon, Levi was also scattered and diminished in Israel as a tribal force. Even so, they were greatly honored in their appointment to the service of YAHWEH. This ‘crowning’ act of final distribution led to the allocation of 48 ‘cites’ and their pasture lands and 6 cities of refuge. That’s it! Even so, Levi was honored despite Jacob’s curse upon them because at a time of phenomenal crisis, the Levites alone came and stood with Moses (Exodus 32:26)  and because the Levite Phineas took action for the righteousness of God in the plains of Moab. (see Numbers 25)

Final Reflections  |

So, Levi was still scattered, yet scattered smothered and covered with God’s redemptive grace. The tribe of Levi’s actions proved to be indicative of  some kind of ‘redemption by trial?’ Though the curse ‘landed’ and was applied, it was modified due to the heart changes indicated by the actions of the tribe of Levi, the fierce bunch.
