BOOK 06 of 66  | Joshua 22

Highlight Verses | Joshua 22:22-26

"The Lord God of gods, the Lord God of gods, He knows, and let Israel itself know — if it is in rebellion, or if in treachery against the Lord, do not save us this day. If we have built ourselves an altar to turn from following the Lord, or if to offer on it burnt offerings or grain offerings, or if to offer peace offerings on it, let the Lord Himself require an account. But in fact we have done it for fear, for a reason, saying, 'In time to come your descendants may speak to our descendants, saying, "What have you to do with the Lord God of Israel? For the Lord has made the Jordan a border between you and us, you children of Reuben and children of Gad. You have no part in the Lord." So your descendants would make our descendants cease fearing the Lord.' NKJV

Some Observations |

Are there misunderstandings in families? Is the pope an Anti-Christ? Yes, of course there are misunderstandings, and this one very nearly proved to be the wrecking of the whole. This was no over-reaction from the majority tribes in the promised land, for they knew the covenant of YAHWEH, and indeed, they were still smarting over the consequences of the breaking of the same. Therefore, they certainly were not going to let that happen again, even if it meant civil war.

Final Reflections   |

I cannot help but think there was a communications breakdown on the part of the two and a half tribes. A delegation of selected tribal diplomats might easily have been sent to the leaders of the majority tribes to inform them of their intent and reasoning. I wonder if they thought that asking forgiveness was easier than gaining consent?

BOOK 06 of 66  | Joshua 23,24

Highlight Verses | Joshua 24:22-28

So Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord for yourselves, to serve Him." And they said, "We are witnesses!"  "Now therefore," he said, "put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the Lord God of Israel."  And the people said to Joshua, "The Lord our God we will serve, and His voice we will obeyà  Then Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God. And he took a large stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of the Lord. And Joshua said to all the people, "Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us, for it has heard all the words of the Lord which He spoke to us. It shall therefore be a witness to you, lest you deny your God." NKJV

Some Observations |

It has been said that no one-man is of any supreme national importance. That, of course, is utter garbage. We need to be greatly concerned when great national leaders pass, and no one is there to fill their boots. Yeshua, where are the men to meet this dark hour?

Final Reflections  |

Look now, Joshua foresaw the rot. Foreign god’s were already among the Israelites and the compromise had already begun. Now was their opportunity to spiritually spring-clean before the new-era broke upon them. They said yes to following God, and it was recorded in stone. Time, however, tells us that they did not follow YAHWEH.  Yeshua, where are the men to meet this dark hour?
