For those of you who are new here, I created these databases in 2014, in order to boost the visibility of marginalized creators. I made a comic about it, which you can read here.
Recently, I got an invoice from GoDaddy, who had raised their rates to a point where I could no longer afford to keep running the databases (the databases don't generate profit--I've been paying for their existence out of my meager cartoonist income all this time). This resulted in my very humiliating request for help on social media, which then resulted in some donations from very wonderful people, enough to keep the databases hosted for a few years longer. And then Hiveworks contacted me with this very generous offer! Hooray!
Today, my trusty helper Cameron Decker (who redesigned both databases awhile back, and made them searchable) and the lovely folks at Hiveworks finished transitioning the sites away from the dreaded GoPatriarchy (haha). This of course lessens my financial load, and I'm thrilled to say that I used the lion's share of the donations to finally pay Cameron for his up-til-now-pro-bono services! It wasn't nearly as much as he deserves for his long hours of work, but I'm glad I was finally able to give him something.
Cameron continues to help me with database maintenance (ironing out bugs, improving the sites, help with the transition, etc.), which has been so helpful. He is an excellent database engineer and designer, and is a pleasure to work with: prompt, responsive, knowledgeable, creative, friendly, and quite talented. He also happens to be looking for more paying clients, so if you're in the market for a website or database redesign, or even web hosting, please consider his services.
THANK YOU to everyone who generously donated to the cause, or spread the word, THANK YOU to Cameron Decker, and THANK YOU to Hiveworks! I am so grateful that you've made it possible for the databases to keep helping marginalized creators and the folks who are looking for them.
Thank you thank you!
