This Extraordinary Being: The Poem That Didn't Make the Final Cut

I am feeling less stressed and more relaxed now that Mithila Review's latest issue is out.

My editorial is called "This Extraordinary Being" — yes after the famous #Watchmen episode: https://mithilareview.com/shah_12_19/

I guess I was still dealing with the effects of Nostalgia —  the memory pills — from watching #Watchmen when I wrote that editorial and an eponymous poem. I didn't want to include the poem in the editorial because of obvious reasons.

I thought it'd make an interesting post — so here it goes:

This Extraordinary Being
Salik Shah

After Watchmen (Season 1, Episode 6)

Fury.
Vigilante.
Justice.

No, you don’t
want my names —
this bloody job.

This dark
gutter-power.

I was born a crime —
refugee-threat;
victim-danger.

You can’t hang,
shoot, burn or bury
me like a dog.

No, no, no —

I’m not a superhero,
monster or alien.

Just anybody
hurt—hurts;
lost.

Fighter,
Storm.
Dawn.

Thank you for being our patron — if not a superhero!
