I took this picture, which became the cover image for Loyal Valley: Bystanders, in February of 2014. Just a few weeks later, the property was sold, and the new owners set about renovating the house. I'm glad, of course--it was apparently a really nice house before it was abandoned, and from what I've heard, the new owners have made it just as nice despite some changes to the interior layout. But apparently I got my picture-taking in at just the right time!
(The other funny thing about this picture is that I learned several months after the book came out that the house originally belonged to the Marschall family, who were related by marriage to John O. Meusebach, founder of both Fredericksburg and Loyal Valley.)
